                      The 2019 DDS Speakers Series presents:

ABI: Behavior & Substance Abuse 

with Chris Carter, Psy.D. CBIST

This two-part workshop will focus on ABI Behaviors in the morning, and ABI & Substance Abuse in the afternoon.

Dr. Carter has been a clinical psychologist specializing in acquired brain injury since 1989. He provides direct care for adults with behavioral disturbances following a brain injury, run in-patient residential programs for adults with disruptive behavior following TBI and continues to serve as the primary psychologist for the brain injury program at the Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Charlestown. He provides consultation on behavior management and program development throughout the hospital and the Spaulding Rehabilitation Network. He is a Certified Brain Injury Specialist Trainer and a member of the MGH Department of Psychiatry and a clinical instructor at the Harvard Medical School. He has provided multiple lectures and classes on topics related to acquired brain injury, nationally and internationally. He has contributed two chapters on the subject of traumatic brain injury with an emphasis on accompanying disruptive behavior to the Massachusetts General Comprehensive Guide to Clinical Psychiatry, a chapter on systematic approaches to the management of patients with disorders of consciousness to the Handbook of Neuropsychology of Traumatic Brain Injury and a chapter on the process of translating evidence-based practice into system-wide practice standards.
