The 2020 ASCE Wisconsin Section Virtual Annual Meeting

The ASCE Wisconsin Section – Southeast Branch, will host the 2020 Wisconsin Section Virtual Annual Meeting on Friday, September 18. 

Registration for this event will close at end of day on Wednesday, September 16.

Attendees of the entire conference can earn up to 6.5 PDHs, including one Ethics credit. In addition to the three general sessions, there will be three technical sessions offered throughout the day that attendees can choose from, covering a variety of topics including structural, geotechnical, construction, environmental & water resources, transportation & development, and managemet.

Please note registration fees are greatly reduced due to the event being held virtually and the support of our sponsors. Spots will be limited, so be sure to register early!

ASCE's Proposed Ethics Code 
Robin Kemper, ASCE Past President

Robin Kemper will discuss the ASCE Proposed Ethics code. This session traces the evolution of engineering ethics as applied to actual cases reviewed by ASCE, and reviews the proposed revision to the ASCE Code of Ethics that is currently under consideration by the Board of Direction.

Robin A. Kemper, PE, LEED AP, ENV SP, F.SEI, F.ASCE, has diverse structural  engineering experience focused mainly on building design. She is a senior risk engineer with Zurich North America, where she provides technical support to construction project policies. Robin has a passion for engineering ethics, and in her spare time , she has given over 20 presentations to various engineering groups. 

Robin also served on the Board of Direction of Engineers Without Borders, and the CE Industrial Advisory Board of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, her alma mater. She is currently a member of the CE Industrial Advisory Boards for Rutgers University and the College of New Jersey.

Robin loves travel, seaside vacations, and her family. She and Chris have been married for 39 years. They have two wonderful daughters and two great sons-in-law, and Robin loves playing with the newest members of the family, grandsons Jonahand Ari, and granddaughter Riley.

Walk away with the tools and resources you need to help guide your Section or Branch in expanding ASCE's government relations presence at the local and state levels.

Maria Matthews has been a government relations professional for 13 years and is currently the senior manager of grassroots programs and state relations at the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). She handles ASCE’s grassroots advocacy efforts which includes managing ASCE’s Key Contact and Advocacy Captain programs, planning and execution of the annual Legislative Fly-In, and training new advocates through the Government Relations University program. She also works with ASCE’s Sections and Branches to advance the Society’s public policy priorities at the State Capitol.

Public Relations University: The Wisconsin Infrastructure Report Card, Now What?  
Alexa Lopez, Senior Manager of Public Affairs & Media Relations, and Kevin Longley, Manager of Media Relations

You’ve completed the Wisconsin Report Card, now the public needs to hear from you! In this hands-on workshop, you will gain an introduction to public relations, learn tools and tips for implementing public relations into local activities and professional work, and learn how to develop and communicate public-facing messaging that will best reach your Section’s target audience.

Alexa Lopez, Senior Manager of Public Affairs & Media Relations, leads ASCE’s public affairs and media relations efforts in the government relations branch of the Society. Alexa comes to ASCE from Ogilvy Public Relations, working in media relations onsite at National Institute on Drug Abuse. Prior to this role, she served as the FEMA Press Secretary. She received her undergraduate degree in English/Political Science and her MPA/MA degrees in Nonprofit Management and Arts Administration from Indiana University. She was born and raised in Dayton, Ohio.

Kevin Longley, Manager of Media Relations, manages ASCE’s media relations efforts with Alexa Lopez, particularly in regards to request from the media. He comes to ASCE from Sirius XM Radio, working as an associate producer for their Fantasy Sports Radio and NASCAR Radio channels. A DC area native, he received his undergraduate degree in Broadcast Journalism from Arizona State University.
