What makes the constructed response question, a staple of the K-PREP, still such a mystery to Kentucky teachers? This workshop will help teachers and administrators from all grade levels understand some basic tenets of the creation of both short and extended constructed response questions as well as the analysis of live student responses in order to guide instruction. Helping teachers to view these higher order questions as an integral tool for classroom instruction and assessment, rather than an “add on,” will lead them to effective use of this assessment tool.

Workshop participants will use new standards-based documents in order to create effective questions that will be immediately usable in their classrooms. They will also be lead through the process of analyzing live student work for strengths, weaknesses, and instructional implications. The group will have the opportunity to share strategies and suggestions as they build understanding of the basis of this essential assessment tool, the constructed response question.
