Improving Core Writing in Your Classroom: (Session 2 of 5 in CKEC Improving Writing in Your School)

Classroom teachers grades k-5, Special education teachers, Curriculum Resource Teachers, Instructional Coaches, Administrators

 

Description:

This is Session 2of 5 in a series that CKEC is offering to Improve Writing in Your Schools during the 2014-15 year.  You do not have to attend Session 1: Constructed Response to register for this session. Feel free to register for as many of the sessions in the series as you like.  It is not necessary to attend all 5.  There is a separate registration for each session. 

Session 2: Improving Core Writing in Your Classroom: Connecting Program Review, KCAS and Writers Workshop

 Writing Program Review, K-3 Program Review, Core Writing Instruction required by HB 69, Writers Workshop…..How do all of these align and support each other? This session will focus on best practices for core writing instruction and key components to move your school toward proficiency on the Writing Program Reviews. Participants will learn how to set up Writers Workshop for core instruction, design mini lessons congruent with Kentucky Core Academic Standards, and use assessments to determine the needs of young writers. If you are interested in using mentor texts to develop writing traits, setting up and managing Writer’s Workshop, using Writers’ Notebooks and assessing and monitoring writing development this is a session for you!  Participants will leave with a binder of resources and web resources to use right away.

At CKSEC, we love kids and families! Unfortunately, due to liability issues and professional decorum, children and other family members or friends are not permitted to attend our trainings.

Please dress in layers as it can be difficult to adjust the temperature.

CKEC accepts purchase orders, checks, or money orders for payment. CKEC, for auditing purposes, can not accept cash. 

Attendance Policy: If you register to attend a session, but find you are unable to attend, please cancel your registration as early as possible. Space is limited and by canceling you will allow others to benefit from these highly qualified professional development opportunities. A fee could be assessed for no shows.

Districts will be notified of those who registered and did not attend or did not cancel prior to be session.
