"Is the Distressed Industry Distressed?" 

 You are invited to a breakfast seminar focusing on the outlook for the business and transaction volume for turnaround consultants, bankruptcy attorneys and distressed investment professionals in 2011.   

  

The seminar will consist of four separate panels: 

  

1)    The Turnaround Consulting Business-Why during the great recession isn't there more turnaround consulting work and what is the outlook for Turnaround and restructuring firms for 2011 and beyond?  Dan Dooley of Morris Anderson, Tom Hill of Alvarez & Marsal, Robert Handler of Commercial Recovery and Carl Lane at AlixPartners and ; 

2)    Bankruptcy Legal Profession-Why are bankruptcy lawyers not as busy during this recession as during past recessions, why are so few major cases filed in the 7th Circuit and what is the outlook for the near future?  Keith Shapiro of Greenberg Traurig, Dan Zazove Perkins and Coie, David Eaton of Kirkland & Ellis and Harold Israel of Kaye Scholer; 

3)    View From Inside the Commercial Banks- What is the status of banks' current bad credits?  How are they handling troubled loans?  What is on the horizon for commercial bank lending?  How do banks decide when to engage outside professionals?  Jacqueline Yardley of J.P. Morgan Chase,    Mike Sharkey of Cole Taylor, Rick Percifield of Regions Financial and Scott Purdy of Bank of Montreal/Harris N.A.;    

     4)    Distressed Investing-Why have there been so few transactions for middle market distressed companies and what is the outlook for this year and next?  William Welnhoffer of R.W. Baird, Stephen Presserof Monomoy Capital Partners, Jim Shein Professor  at Kellogg School of Management and Jeff Schneiders of the Chicago Corporation.

Brief Bio’s of Panelists:

 

Dan Dooley: Principal and CEO Morris Anderson- is an operations and financial executive who is an accomplished manager and transactional specialist. Mr. Dooley oversees the operations of Morris-Anderson.

 

David Eaton:  Partner Kirkland & Ellis- Mr. Eaton concentrates his practice in the representation of debtors, financial institutions, unsecured creditors and committees, in workout and bankruptcy planning, negotiation and litigation.  He also represents purchasers of financially troubled companies.  Mr. Eaton has a broad perspective on cross-border deals, drawing from his unique experience in investment banking and turnaround consulting.

 

 

Robert Handler: Managing Director Commercial Recovery Associates- has over 25 years of professional experience in commercial financial transactions, with most of his

Involvement in managing turnaround situations and other financially distressed financial matters

 

Tom Hill: Managing Director, Regional Co-Head of Alvarez & Marsal’s (A&M) Restructuring Group- Tom has over 25 years of experience in developing and implementing strategic business plans on behalf of debtors, and evaluating plans on behalf of lenders/creditors.  Prior to opening the Chicago office for A&M, he spent over 19 years in public accounting.

 

Harold Israel: Counsel at Kaye Scholer. He represents secured lenders, debtors, creditors and official creditor committees in workouts and reorganizations throughout the United States.  Harold is President-elect of the Midwest Chapter of the TMA.

 

Carl Lane:  Managing Director at AlixPartners LLP.  Carl has more than 20 years of experience as an interim executive and financial consultant focusing on providing reorganization and restructuring advice to major distressed companies, creditors, shareholders, and other interested parties.  He holds CFA, CIRA and CDBV designations and is currently president of the Chicago/Midwest Chapter of the TMA 

 

Rick Percifield: Senior Vice President of Regions Financial Corporation.  Rick has been a veteran of work out and special situations loans for over a decade.

  Stephen Presser is the senior partner of Monomoy a $700 million business improvement Fund based in New York City.  He is a lifelong turnaround professional, Stephen has represented large stakeholders in some of the biggest restructurings in North America, and he writes and lectures extensively on distressed investing and business restructuring.

 Scott Purdy: Managing Director & Unit Head Bank of Montreal/Harris N.A.  Scott heads the Special Accounts Management Unit and Enterprise Risk & Portfolio Management for the bank.

 Mike Sharky: President at Cole Taylor Business Capital- with 32 years of experience in asset based lending, was hired in 2008 to start and build Cole Taylor Business Capital.  Prior to joining Cole Taylor Mike was President of LaSalle Business Credit.

 

 

Keith Shapiro: Co-Managing Shareholder of the Chicago office, Co-Chair of Greenberg Traurig's Business Reorganization & Bankruptcy Practice.  Keith has more than 25 years of bankruptcy and restructuring experience.

 

Professor James B. Shein: Clinical Professor of Management & Strategy at the Kellogg School of Management. He is invited on boards of distressed companies.  Professor Shein is author of the book:  Reversing the Slide:  A Strategic Guide to Turnarounds and Corporate Renewal.

 

Jeff Schneiders: is a managing director and shareholder of The Chicago Corporation, an independent middle market investment banking firm.  Jeff is a 20 year industry veteran that leads the firm’s Special Situations practice representing underperforming companies in financial restructurings, capital raises, and distressed sale transactions both in and out of bankruptcy.  He earned his MBA from Northwestern University and undergraduate degree from Miami (Ohio) University. 

William Welnhofer: Managing Director Head of Corporate Restructuring Group at R.W. Baird.  His Focus is primarily on leveraged finance, out-of-court debt restructurings, refinancing and distressed M&A transactions.

 Jacqueline Yardley: Senior Vice President Special Credits Group J.P. Morgan Chase.  Jackie has over 20 years of restructuring experience.  Jackie presently leads the Special Credits teams for real estate, community development banking, financial institutions and equipment leasing nationally transactions  

Dan Zazove: a leading practitioner in business insolvency and turnarounds for more than thirty five years
