About the Training

Everyone has a story. Stories connect and comfort us in our shared struggles, help us know that we are not alone, and give us hope to cope, survive and thrive. Our stories are our SUPERPOWER!

Social science and emerging neurobiological research reveal that storytelling helps us heal, lift our mood and regain control of our life’s narrative. Storytelling is healing for both story sharers and listeners. And, stories have the power of transform individuals as well as the healthcare system.

About the Presenters

Molly Vanderwerf

Molly was born and raised in Portland, OR. After starting high school at a public school there was a huge shift in her life. She didn’t know many people there, and started using drugs and alcohol as a social crutch to make friends. This quickly turned in to substance abuse, and she struggled with depression, anxiety and panic attacks. Things spiraled out of control when she was 22 and had a manic episode. She has been stable for 5 years now and is proud to say she is a Peer Wellness Specialist and yoga teacher helping others on their journey to wellbeing.

Gayathri Ramprasad

Gayathri is the Founder and President of ASHA International, a nonprofit organization dedicated to normalizing conversations about mental health and inspiring hope & healing, one story at a time. She is also the author of Shadows in the Sun: Healing from Depression and Finding the Light Within.

Her successful battle in overcoming debilitating depression taught Gayathri the power of hope and holistic wellness. Now, she shares that message with others. Since the launch of ASHA International’s programs in 2006, Gayathri’s keynotes, wellness workshops, and cultural competence trainings have reached more than 60,000 people nationally and internationally with a resounding message of hope and recovery. Individuals and organizations alike applaud Gayathri as an agent of hope and transformational change.
