NDLSEC Membership Information 

Mission

 The mission of the NDLSEC is to achieve and promote excellence in education, training, and research related to disaster medicine and public health preparedness for all health professionals based on sound educational principles, scientific evidence, and best clinical and public health practices.

To fulfill its mission and realize its desired impact, the NDLSEC will advise the National Disaster Life Support™ (NDLS™) Foundation on improvement and expansion of the NDLS training programs.  The NDLSEC will serve as a community of health professionals dedicated to formalized, life-long learning in disaster medicine and public health preparedness with a shared vision to create a global network of health professionals who are ready, willing, and able to meet the health and safety needs of all persons and communities affected by disasters and public health emergencies.

The NDLSEC is an unincorporated association sponsored and convened by the National Disaster Life Support Foundation, Inc. (NDLSF™).

Committees

Committees will perform the bulk of the work of the NDLSEC.  Committee reports, recommendations and conclusions will be considered and approved by the Advisory Committee and submitted to the NDLSF Board of Directors for consideration. The Advisory Committee will adjudicate any disagreements between committee recommendations.

Duties and Responsibilities of NDLSEC Members

  • Collectively serve as an advisory group to the NDLSF to assure that the NDLS Program serves as the premier, nationally recognized, standardized, multidisciplinary curriculum in disaster medicine and public health preparedness for health professionals and other community responders.
  • Collectively participate in the periodic review and assessment of NDLS courses, manuals, and other supporting curriculum materials.
  • Collectively provide input to the NDLSF regarding updates and revisions to NDLS courses, manuals, and other supporting curriculum materials in order to maintain quality, relevancy, and editorial uniformity, as well as assure that the NDLS courses meet established training needs, goals, and objectives.
  • Collectively assist the NDLSF in identifying and promoting strategies for integrating multiple disciplines, professions, and specialties into NDLS education and training efforts.
  • Collectively assist the NDLSF with identifying writers and reviewers for revising or creating new content for the NDLS Program.
  • Collectively assist the NDLSF in identifying, sharing, and promoting best practices and lessons learned from national disaster education and training efforts.
  • Collectively provide input to the NDLSF in planning national, regional, state, and local NDLS training and outreach efforts and activities as needed.
  • Collectively provide input to the NDLSF regarding opportunities for further development, deployment, and evaluation of the NDLS Program, including potential funding sources.
  • Promote expansion of the NDLS Program and courses.
  • Attend meetings of the NDLSEC on a regular basis and vote upon matters before the NDLSEC.
  • Perform NDLSEC related activities as reasonably requested by the President of the NDLSEC.

The NDLSEC Is an unincorporated association sponsored by the National Disaster Life Support Foundation, a not-for profit 501(c)3 organization incorporated under the laws of the State of Georgia.  Membership in the NDSLEC provides the member with the ability to participate in the NDLSEC Activities and no other benefit should be assumed from the payment of dues or participation.  Membership in committees is determined by the Committee Chair.  The NDLSEC will be comprised of individuals with an interest in disaster medicine and the NDLS program, all of whom participate on a voluntary basis. This may include but is not limited to NDLS training center coordinators, NDLS Training Center medical directors, NDLS instructors, academic institution representatives, and national organization representatives. All individual members of the NDLSEC must agree to actively participate in the activities of the NDLSEC; abide by the requirements of all NDLSEC policies and procedures; and submit an annual membership application. All membership in NDLSEC is subject to approval.
