Networks for Life: Your Role in Stitching the Natural World Together

Enjoy an afternoon with the dynamic and inspiring Professor Doug Tallamy, best-selling author of the groundbreaking book Bringing Nature Home: How You Can Sustain Wildlife with Native Plants.  Dr. Tallamy continues to inspire audiences with his fascinating presentations about the specialized relationships between wildlife and native plants and the critical role we each play in restoring biodiversity to our yards and communities. Dr. Tallamy will discuss how the landscaping of our cities, suburbs and farmland has created fragmented habitats that can no longer support populations large enough to survive normal environmental stresses. Learn how to reconnect viable habitats by changing the way we landscape our yards and communities. How we landscape today will determine what life looks like tomorrow! Dr. Tallamy’s entertaining presentations have inspired thousands to change the way they think about plants & wildlife – many attendees return again and again! Don’t miss out on this inspiring opportunity!

Doug Tallamy is a professor in the Department of Entomology and Wildlife Ecology at the University of Delaware where he has authored 80 research articles and has taught Insect Taxonomy, Behavioral Ecology, Humans and Nature, and other courses for 32 years.

As a child, Doug spent his summer days exploring the wild places that surrounded him, discovering a small pond filled with pollywogs, and taking great delight in watching their growth. One day, a bulldozer buried the young toads and all the other living treasures within the pond, an act that forever influenced Doug's way of thinking about nature.

Mr. Tallamy's book “Bringing Nature Home; How Native Plants Sustain Wildlife in Our Gardens” was published by Timber Press in 2007 and was awarded the 2008 silver medal by the Garden Writer’s Association. Doug was awarded the Garden Club of America Margaret Douglas Medal for Conservation and the Tom Dodd Jr. Award of Excellence in 2013.  In his free time, Doug enjoys photography, hiking in remote places with his wife, swimming, canoeing, and teaching young people about the importance of the life forms around them.
