Frequently Asked Questions:

Who should attend the Conference?    Any high school student wanting to prepare for colleges' hostile attitude towards Jewish students: learn about BDS and how to defeat it,  explore various resources that are available to you on campus, etc.

Any high school student interested in learning about why Jews live in Israel, why there is a conflict, how it started and how we can end it.

Any student who would like to meet other like minded teens from all over the Bay Area.

Do I have to be Jewish?  No, the conference is open to any high school teen. However, please be aware that Club Z is a Jewish organization so some Jewish traditions will be observed.

My parents/ I am Israeli.  I've been to Israel many times and I know everything.   That's great!  We are looking for people who would like to deepen their understanding.  Of course, just because you've been somewhere, even many times, doesn't necessarily make you an expert. Our speakers have something to teach and wisdom to share with everybody.  And, if you can add your experise to the learning -- that's all the better for all.

I don't know anything about Middle East other than what is on TV.  Should I attend?   Absolutely!  The Conference will be a fast paced learning environment with participants getting an in-depth, "insider's" view of many of the current events.

Is food Kosher?    There will be both Kosher and non-Kosher vegetarian food options.

What about Shabbat?  We will have a Shabbat Dinner and teens that keep Shabbat will be roomed togehter.  There will be Shomer shabbat presentations (no amplified sound, no computer in use).

Getting there

How do we get there and back?  We will charter a bus that will leave from the Peninsula and will bring all the teens to the confrence.

What if I want to drive myself?  If you live on the Peninsula, you have to take the bus.  The program actually will start on the bus and we need all the participants to be there.

If you don't live on the Peninsula.     There is an East Bay group that is forming, so we might consider getting the bus for that area as well.   Please contact Masha at masha@rimonclub.org for info.

High School Conference on Israel and the Middle East

PREPARING JEWISH STUDENTS

FOR HOSTILE CAMPUS

Are you a high school student?  Looking forward to college?  Whether you are planning to attend an elite school, or starting at community college, now is the time learn and prepare for an often hostile campus life when it comes to being Jewish.

This conference is for you!

The conference provides an in depth understanding of current events in the Middle East within an historical lens and how why these events are relevant to today's Bay Area teen.  It will feature diverse and passionate speakers who are top academics, faith leaders and current or recent college students.  Teens will have opportunities to meet like-minded friends from across California, and gain a thorough comprehension of current events.

The Conference will address a wide range of topics from contemporary history of the Middle East, to the Arab-Israeli conflict, anti-Israel groups and BDS movement on campus, challenges with J Street, and more.

The space is limited to only 40 participants, and is filled on the first come basis.

Featured Speakers

Kasim Hafeez is a British citizen of Pakistani Muslim heritage who grew up being exposed to radical Anti-Western, Anti-Semitic and Anti-Israel ideas on a daily basis. During his teenage years Kasim embraced a radical Islamist ideology and became very active in the anti-Israel movement. Thankfully Alan Dershowitz’s book ‘The Case for Israel’ challenged Kasim’s fundamental beliefs and caused him to undertake a period of research and reflection that led to him Israel in 2007.
Witnessing the true nature of the Jewish state changed Kasim’s perception of Israel. He felt a moral obligation to publically speak out for Israel and the dangers of radical Islam. He has spoken all over the world including the 2013 Global Forum on Combatting Anti-Semitism. Kasim has appeared on radio and television and print media.

Boris Dolin is a passionate Israeli educator and a historian.  Born in Kiev, then Soviet Union, he lives in Jerusalem and leads various educational projects, such as Birthright, Masa, etc.  Boris is a Ph.D. student in the field of archaeology and a graduate of national security studies.  He specializes in diverse aspects of the Middle East conflict. He is also the founder of Telem, an organization dedicated to educating people about Israel and Middle East.  He has a husky, loves Irish music and believes that you should walk through Israel in order to understand it.
