The Big Family Camp Out @ Heddon Valley 

Join the adventure! Come along and camp out in some of the most amazing locations on Exmoor. Site opens from 4pm Friday. Set your camp, cook your dinner. Tents down by 11am tSunday. Ideal for first time campers. A partnership between Exmoor National Park and the National Trust.

Join the adventure! Come along and camp out in some of the most amazing locations on Exmoor.  Set your camp, cook your dinner and enjoy our communal campfire, storytelling, and a night walk.  Ideal for first time campers.

Where is Heddon valley?

Heddon Valley is a beautful secluded valley on the Exmoor Coast largely owned and managed by the National Trust.

What’s the campsite like?

The camping is in a small field.

What’s happening?

You can come for either one or two nights, arriving on the Friday night or the Saturday night (it’s the same price).  We will be running activities on the Saturday evening leaving you free Friday night and Saturday and Sunday day time to enjoy the outdoor space and to explore the local area.  or take part in the family friendly Stone balancing workshops and competition that is running in the valley that weekend  Here’s a rough plan;

Go for an explore or have fun in the huge field.

What should I do on Saturday?

There is a lot to do on Exmoor.  These websites should give you some ideas, whether it’s exploring medieval Dunster, enjoying a riverside picnic at Tarr Steps or walking part of the South West coast path.

What should I bring?

  • All your camping gear (tents, camping mats, sleeping bags etc).
  • Suitable outdoor clothes and footwear (for bright sun as well as rain!).
  • Food and a camping stove.
  • Don’t forget insect repellant and a torch!!

What is provided?

  • Toilet facilities.
  • A large communal campfire for cooking/warmth with a parachute shelter.
  • Drinking water.
  • Hot water (most of the time – i.e. when the fire’s going!).
  • Help to put up your tent.

Are there any rules?

This will be the second year running the event and so far there have been no problems. Common sense/basic camping etiquette will apply;
