Unthinkable: Concepts and Techniques for the Gravest Extreme - February 23

Dr. William Aprill's "Unthinkable" takes you on a tour of the dark side of violence. In one day, you will discover how dangerous aggressors think, how they interpret your body language and behavior, and how they choose their victims. Will it be YOU or someone else? You may be surprised to learn that being a "good guy" could make you a more likely target.

Plus you will learn how to create an effective and adaptive survival mindset and participate in (optional) hands-on defensive training.

FULL SEMINAR DESCRIPTION

How do violent criminals think of us, and how do they target us?
How are human monsters made and born?
What do we do when faced with a drawn gun?

All these questions suggest threats reasonable people would avoid at any cost. So why would anyone want to spend a day immersed in the exploration of those threats and more?

Simply put, there is no way to develop an effective and adaptive defensive mindset without spending time in some very dark places. This seminar will explore the inner workings of the criminal mind and guide you to the next step in developing your ability to protect yourself and those you love.

Dr. William Aprill will take a systematic approach as he helps you enhance your personal safety in an engaging, fast-paced, full-day seminar.

You will be presented with hard truths about our world and challenged to make serious, personal changes in your everyday life.

Fatal Choices: Understanding "Violent Criminal Actors" and How They Identify Victims

You will be led through contemporary theories and current data on the process by which violent criminal actors select their targets for violent aggression.

Particular attention will be paid to the internal mechanisms in play within the criminal mind, the universe of signifiers around "good guy" behavior, demeanor, and attributes which may actually make selection for attack more likely, as well as considerations for responsible armed citizens to reduce this risk.

Previous versions of this material have been presented to LE agencies and private citizen groups across the U.S. as well as international LE educational events.

The 5 W's of Risk: Constructing an Effective Pre-Need Defense Paradigm

Many instructors present material on surviving physical attack while others address the aftermath of that defensive violence. However the preparation for being attacked, what Craig Douglas of ShivWorks has referred to as the pre-kinetic phase, is given limited, if any, attention by the vast majority of trainers and even fewer students.

This unique seminar will review common mental and philosophical errors you are likely to make as you plan for what you hope will never happen: a determined attack by a violent criminal intent on killing you and those you love.

You will learn a practical method for making critical decision in advance, which is necessary for a sound self-defense and survival mindset, and will provide increased awareness and a clear path to maximize your capacity for self-protection and survival.

Open-Source Retention/Disarming

The seminar will also include hands-on instruction in the art and science of maintaining control of your defensive handgun and how to take one away from an assailant when necessary. No prior experience or training in defensive tactics is required and no special physical gifts are necessary.

If you wish to participate, pease bring an inert training pistol (red gun, blue gun, SIRT, etc.) and your carry gear.

If you do not wish to participate, you are welcome to observe the instruction as part of the seminar.
