Ongoing Care Solutions, Inc. (OCSI) brings their 7.5 hour continuing ed workshop to NC! Network with your PACE colleagues from across the state while learning about contracture management, neurological conditions, osteoarthritis and the use of bracing.
Meet in person from 8am to 1pm for the first 4.5 hours of instruction and lunch.
An optional hour-long informal networking session will follow. We know you don't often get a chance to gather all together in person, and it's a valuable opportunity to share stories, ask questions and foster community with your PACE colleagues.
The remaining 3 hours of instructional time will be offered via one-hour webinars.
Course Description: Prefabricated orthotics have been used by clinicians to treat spasticity and lost range of motion due to contractures for many years. Traditionally, rigid splints are used in an attempt to maintain lost range of motion, but this type of orthotic therapy has limited success and does not treat the underlying spasticity. This course will introduce participants to alternative orthotic technologies that will effectively manage spasticity and reverse contractures. The course will focus on the use of pneumatic air orthotics and dynamic or static-dynamic braces to maximize patient rehabilitation. NeuroStretch, an alternative Passive Range of Motion Technique (PROM) will be presented. NeuroStretch PROM facilitates muscle inhibition in the affected limb(s) and is an excellent short effects manual technique that can be used to treat spasticity. Lecture and case study presentations are presented to enhance the learning process.
Course Objectives: Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
