Capt. Khary W. Hembree-Bey assumed command of the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Corona Division on Sept. 6,2019. As commanding officer, he leads more than 3,700 Sailors, Navy civilians and support contractors in Corona'scritical mission as the independent assessment andanalysis agent for the Navy. The warfare center analyzes warfare and missile defense systems, provides systems engineering for Live Virtual Constructive training ranges,and advises and administratively manages measurement and calibration standards for the Navy and Marine Corps.

A native of Long Beach, New York, Hembree-Bey is a 1996 graduate of the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York, where he earned a bachelor's degree in marine transportation. He earned his master's degree in business administration from the College of William and Mary.

Hembree-Bey has served at sea and as part of the pre-commissioning crews of USS Pearl Harbor (LSD 52) and USS Shoup (DDG 86). He was selected for LT command and, in 2004,he assumed command of USS Typhoon (PC 5) in Norfolk, Virginia, where he deployed her to the Arabian Gulf. Upon his return, he assumed command of the newly formed rotational crew, Patrol Coastal Crew Alpha, and commanded USS Tempest (PC 2). In 2006, he served as the commissioning chief staff officer for the Patrol Coastal Squadron serving as both ISIC and CLASSRON for all Patrol Coastal Ships. In 2012, Hembree-Bey assumed command of Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) Ghazni, Afghanistan, where he led a joint interagencyand multinational team assisting the Afghan government in reconstruction efforts. After command of PRT Ghazni, he assumed duties as the deputy commander of Task Force Five Six/Navy Expeditionary Combat Forces Central responsible for all Navy Expeditionary Forces operating in Fifth Fleet Area of Operations to include Explosive Ordnance Disposal, SEABEES and Coastal Riverine Forces.

Hembree-Bey has served ashore as the Commanders Emergency Response Program (CERP) manager for Multi-National Corp-Iraq in 2008. In 2009, he was the U.S. Strategic Command Liaison Officer to U.S. Africa Command in Stuttgart, Germany, where he assisted with the integration and synchronization between the two combatant commands. His first acquisitions assignment was as the Littoral Combat Ships (LCS) Integration Platform Manager responsible for the installation and integration of the C4I suites for both variants of the LCS class.

He holds Level III Acquisition Certification in Program Management and is a Surface Warfare Officer Acquisitions Corps member. Before taking command of NSWC Corona, he was assigned to the Ship New Construction Principal Integration Platform Manager for amphibious and unit-level ships at Program Executive Office Command, Control,Communications, Computers and Intelligence (PEOC4I/PMW760).

His decorations include two Joint Meritorious Service Medals, two Meritorious ServiceMedals, three Navy Commendation Medals, a Navy Achievement Medal and various campaign and service awards.
