Engineers get very specific educational and employment training to develop their careers in their technical disciplines. However, leadership and communication skills are often as critical to career success and advancement as the technical skills. This seminar will offer direct, hands-on educational sessions from industry leaders on topics that are important in today’s workforce. Whether one works in private practice, construction, or public service, these skills are important to your career development.
1. How to Develop a Professional Digital Presence - KiKi L'Italien, CEO and founder of Amplified Growth
Sixty-four percent of employers say they have used professional social media to inform hiring decisions. What is your digital footprint saying about you and what do you want it to say?
2. The Great Collaborator: How to Work with Anyone - Greg Roth, GR Creative
The days of the “do-it-all” professional are gone, meaning that one of the cornerstones of great work is being great at working with others. But, you don’t have to be a team leader to lead in a team setting. This session examines lessons across numerous “design” professions about effective team culture and solving complex problems. Learn how to collaborate, critique, and communicate new ideas, together.
3. Crafting Important Leadership Skills for Future Career Success - Cynthia L. Simpson, M. Ed, CAE, Chief Business Development Officer & Gretchen Schieber, Ph D, MBA, Association for Women in Science
It’s the chicken-or-egg concept – are leaders born or made? There are critical leadership skills that can be developed over time which will influence career success. Qualities of a good leader include confidence, transparency, integrity, passion, and trustworthiness. Through interactive discussions, this presentation will discuss how you can demonstrate leadership skills and what it means to be a great leader. In addition, the importance of developing good communication skills will be examined along with suggestions that can be implemented immediately.
Three (3) professional development hours (PDHs) will be available.
