Summary of Presentations:

VISUAL INSPECTION OF FIBER CEMENT SIDING - The 4-hour class will blend a presentation from reprentatives from the James Hardie Company with a presentaton of home inspection field slides from Dylan Chalk.                                                                                                                    The Hardie reps will tell how the product should be installed today and we will compare with the realities in the field.  The Hardie presentation will focus on today's requirements of Hardie fiber cement siding.  They will also provide background in how Hardie built its installation requirements on codes and how it has changed over the years as well as distinguising between installation requirements and best practices.  They will discuss the scope of their warranty as well as their products for different climate zones.                                                                                               Dylan will present inspection field slides that demonstrate red flags we should be looking for and discuss what we should say about these various defects.  This class will leave inspectors with useful skills for distinguising typical installation problems from exceptionally poor installations and will provide language for what we can say when confronted with complex situations, such as older installations that are not installed to today's standards.

NEW HOUSE INSPECTIONS - We are not 'code inspectors' but we need to know and understand the building codes to make informed decisions about what to report and to help our clients.  This class will review signficant code changes in the past several cycles (IRC 2009, 2012, 2015, and upcoming) with particular focus on structure, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and roofing systems.  We will learn what to look for and how to report it.  Also to be reviewed are local code changes not found in the IRC books.
