Training Descriptions:

Managing School Performance for Children: School Performance is one of the biggest stressors in any home. What do you do when your child brings home another report card with less than desirable grades? How do you handle it? Understanding your child's cognitive needs and finding productive ways to address cognitive weaknesses can help keep parental emotions in Check. Attendees will learn how brain training has unmatched power to unlock learning potential by effectively addressing the cause behind learnng and reading struggles.

Homelessness and Harm Reduction Models for Children and Families: Participants will gain an understanding of homelessness in Lousville, gain an understanding of how reducing homelessness leads to stronger families and models for working with families and children.

Substance Abuse and How It Impacts Families: Participants will focus on identifying signs of substance abuse, behaviors that put adolescents at risk for substance abuse and prevention tips for parents and their family members.

Mindful Parenting-Reducing Stress and Enhancing Relationships: ( Mindfulness Center); Particpants will learn the five dimensions of mindful parenting and practice breath work, self reflection and being in the present moment via guided meditation. Particpants will learn ways in which mindful parenting can improve communication, their ability to parent and their overall satisfaction with parent child relationships.

ACES and Child Resilience: The workshop reviews how adverse experiences in childhood impair social functioning, reduce indicators of well-being and increase biomedical disease.

Trust Based Relational Interventions: Particpants will get an overview of Trust Based Relational Intervention. The connecting Principle is part of TBRI; it alligns with the "relationship" pillar of trauma informed care, it is attachment-based and is broken into 2 strategies ( Playful Engagement and Mindfullness).

CASA 101: A presentation that covers the role and importance of a Court Appointed Advocate in an abused and neglected child's life.

Mental Health and The Impact on Families and Children: Represenatives from NAMI in Louisville will focus on the family and how parents can identify, support and address the emotional needs of their children. In addition they will desribe a variety of mental health diagnosis and the affects that can be triggered by childhood trauma and abuse, while targeting ways that the cylce of abuse can be reduced or prevented.

Policies Around Child Abuse in KY: Participants will learn from a Professor of Pediatrics about the latest policies around child maltreatment and ways to identify child maltreatment in KY.

Attachment and Parenting: Participants will learn to recognize signs and symptoms of developmental trauma and learn some useful interventions to help children feel safe and grow from a feeling of security. Detailed activities will be reviewed from a "bottom up approach" utilizing developmentally appropriate strategies to provide safety and security.

4 Your Child: Dads Making the Difference: This workshop will present the findings from a study that examined parenting priorities among mothers and fathers. The results revealed that mothers and fathers have different priorities with regard to their beliefs about the roles of fathers. This workshop will also discuss the implications for fathers' access to and involvement with thier children.

Human Trafficking & the Relationship to Early Childhood Sexual Abuse: Through lecture and interactive discussions, this session will establish a clear picture of what human trafficking is and what it is not, provide a basis of understanding of it's root causes and effects and give examples of the warning signs. Additionally, it will attempt to explain the overwhelming prominence of early childhood sexual abuse reported by the victims of human trafficking and how they are related.

Trauma Informed at Home, Work and in Life: Whether at home, work or in the commuity being trauma informed is crucial to helping children feel safe, assist in recovery and boost their resiliene. We will discuss how as caregivers, service proviers or community members we can foster safety, recovery and resilience in kids by understanding what it is to be trauma informed.

Internet Crimes against Children: Kentucky Trends: This presentation will provide an overiview of internet crimes committed against Kentucky's children. Lieutenant Murrell will utilize Kentucky cases investigated by the Kentucky State Police Electronic Crimes Branch to educate participants on current trends in Kentucky. Participants will learn to recognize, prevent and report online predator behavior.

Darkness to Light Stewards of Children: Darkness to Light Stewards to Children provides tools to prevent, recognize and react responsibly to child sexual abuse. This training approaches the difficult topic of child sexual abuse in a way that is empowering, not fear-focused or depressing. It uses a practical, five-step approach to prevention and response that enables adults to protect the children in their lives and youth-serving organizaitons.

Suspicicious Injutires in Children: This workshop will cover the recognition, documentation and interpretation of physical injuries as well as natural diseases that mimic abusive trauma.

Mangaing Difficult Childhood behaviors at Home and at School: Learn about strategies to avoid incidents of challengng behaviors in home and school settings. Possible motives will be examined to assist caregivers in determining the most effective interventions. Preventive guidelines for arranging the home and school environments, setting expectations and encouraging postive behaviors will be discussed.

Parenting Strategies for Children with Special Needs: This session will cover some basic social-emotional needs for young children specifially targeted to young children with special needs. Participants will learn some ways to improve parenting, to meet the needs of their children, by improving self-esteem, making postive changes to the environment, decreasing meltdowns, improving parent child-child relationships and embracing the unique strengths of children and their caregivers.
