The Professional Photographers’ Society of New York State will commemorate the 10^th anniversary of the tragic events of September 11th by coordinating a statewide photo shoot, called “Project 9.11.” Our goal is to capture images from all over New York, a decade after the terrorist attacks.

Much in the spirit of “A Day in the Life of America,” we are setting out to document what happens in New York State during this 24 hour period, through the eyes and lenses of our over 400 professional photographers. The subject matter is up to each individual photographer, and needs not to be directly related to what transpired 10 years ago. We wish to capture the spirit of New York’s resilience and unity. We intend to photograph people and events from Montauk to Buffalo, Jamestown to Plattsburgh.

The End Product
Our ultimate goal is to produce a piece of living history and publish it in book form. PPSNYS intends to sell a limited number of these books. The book will serve as a fundraising vehicle for local emergency service agencies.  It is also our goal to demonstrate the power of visual media to capture and document the emotions, people, and events in a brief moment in time. To accomplish this, we are harnessing the talents, minds and hearts of some of the finest people in our profession.

How to Participate
To participate in the PPSNYS Project 9.11 please register by September 7, 2011. The deadline for all final submissions is September 21, 2011, with a maximum of 3 images. Specifications and protocols regarding file type, size and where to send your images will be forwarded to you. Make sure to imbed maker information into the metadata of your files, but do not place any words on the images themselves. All submitted images must be accompanied with a signed model release form for each individual in the photo. This is a wonderful opportunity to contribute to PPSNYS and our profession.
