Online Peer Consultation Group for Group Leaders: Fall/Winter Session
looking to start a group January 12, 26, February 9, 23, March 15, 30, April 13, 27, 2023
Thursdays from 7 - 9 pm (exception Wednesday March 15, 2023)
Group Facilitator : TIGS Co Director Allan Sheps
Group Purpose:
- To assist group leaders, build effective leadership capacity.
- During the 8 weeks we will identify and work through your group leadership challenges, integrating theory with our own group process.
Group Membership
- Small group size: 6-12 participants.
- Open to professionals in all stages of their development as group leaders.
- Open to leaders from a variety of different types of groups and groups at different stages of development.
- Open to leaders running both time-limited and open-ended groups.
Group Goals:
- Develop perceptual skills: the ability to recognize significant group dynamics, events, and themes in a group’s life.
- Develop conceptual analysis skills: give meaning to the information experienced in the here-and-now process of the group and place it within a theoretical context.
- Develop executive action skills: formulate and learn skillful therapeutic interventions that meet the needs of the group members as well as group goals.
Group Norms:
- Attendance: Maximum effort to attend all 8 scheduled sessions
- Punctuality: 7-9 pm EST
- Confidentiality:
- Member and client confidentiality
- HIPAA compliant Zoom platform
- End-to-end encryption; no recording; no chat feature.
- Consent for online Group Leadership Consultation required
Group Participation and attention to:
- Content: Actively sharing your experiences and challenges as a group leader.
- Parallel Process: Using the here-and-now experiences in the Peer Consultation Group to appreciate the parallel process of the issues under consideration.
- Group Progress Report: Developing skills by tracking both content and process events of a group that you may be leading and/or track the events of our consultation group.
- Exploration of leader interventions.
- Review of relevant reference materials.
Signed Waiver of Liability:
- You understand the benefits and risks of participating in the Peer Consultation Group for Group Leaders, including the emotional risks involved and assume responsibility for your own mental health.
- You further understand that you are responsible for all clinical decisions and actions you make and agree to maintain appropriate liability insurance while involved with TIGS.
Group Facilitator: Allan Sheps MSW RSW FCGPA CGP is a social worker in private practice in Toronto. Allan is a seasoned clinician, trainer and consultant who has presented his work internationally. Past president of the Canadian Group Psychotherapy Association, Allan is currently fulfilling his passion for group therapy as a co director of the Toronto Institute of Group Studies.
Fees: $500 CAD payable VIA E-TRANSFER to admin@tigs.co upon registration (please see fee policy).
