A Conversation with Scott Rutan PhD

 

As a teacher and mentor, Scott maintains that while it is the relationship that heals, learning how to sit with strong affect and maintain a theoretical frame that you trust are absolutely critical. In recent years, Scott has focussed his attention on important topics such as how to repair relationship ruptures caused by leader error and how to make society’s groups more therapeutic. In this conversation we will also explore Scott's perspective on how the field of group therapy has changed over the years and where he feels it's going. In joining us, Scott continues his long and much valued friendship with the Canadian group therapy community. He was a frequent presenter at Canadian Group Psychotherapy Association events over the past 40 years.

Scott Rutan is a Psychologist in Private Practice in Massachusetts. He is a Distinguished Fellow and Past President of the American Group Psychotherapy Association (AGPA). He was the founder of the Center for Group Psychotherapy at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School and co-founder of the Boston Institute for Psychotherapy.
