Attachment Theory and Group Therapy - A Lived Experience

Facilitated by:

  Cheri L. Marmarosh PhD

 February 3rd, 2023

10:30 - 4:30 pm ET Online

Join us for a powerful small group experience (maximum twelve participants) to learn first hand about attachment theory and its application to group dynamics. Members of the group will have a unique opportunity to gain insight into how attachments influence them in their relationships with other members, the leader, and the group-as-a-whole. The process group will be followed by an opportunity for debriefing and reflection to help facilitate integration of the experience, thereby making the application of these valuable theoretical concepts avaialble to you as an evolving group leader.

 Learning Objectives:

The participant will be able to:

1) Identify activating and deactivating attachment behaviors in the group process that impact group cohesion.

2) Articulate common attachment-based themes and dynamics in the group.

3) Describe different ruptures in the group and how attachment theorists recommend repairing ruptures using empathy, genuineness, and curiosity.

4) Describe leader interventions that foster the group becoming a secure or insecure base for members.

5) Articulate the common dynamics of group leadership from an attachment perspective.
