Bio:
Mel Ramos works for GE’s Intelligent Platforms division and is currently the Manufacturing Industry Lead for Mexico. His career has spanned tours at Siemens AG, Manhattan Associates and Dassault Systemes. He is the co-founder of Aspect9, an active industry mentor at UCF’s school of engineering and Timber Creek High School’s Robotics team. He is a graduate of Pomona College in Claremont, CA. Although he resides in Orlando, FL with his wife and two daughters, most of the time you will find him touring a production plant in Mexico.
Timber Creek High School – Orlando, FL
Engineering students from Orlando’s Timber Creek High School participate in Project Lead The Way, a hands-on, project-based STEM program dedicated to engineering excellence. Currently, TCHS has 270 engineering students enrolled in their engineering academy. Students in this program learn skills such as how to use industry-standard software for 3D computer-aided design of objects and for circuit design. They also learn technical sketching, computer programming, CNC machining, and mechanical engineering fundamentals. PLTW students can also earn industry certifications (e.g. Autodesk Inventor,
FLENG Engineering Core Certification). TCHS also possesses a world-class robotics team that competes in VEX® and FRC® Robotics Competitions (http://goo.gl/RLqtec). Last year, their performance at the VEX® state championship earned them a spot at the world championship competition in Anaheim, California.
