A Conference on The California Coastal Commission

A Conference on the California Coastal Commission

Sponsored jointly by the

University of California and Capitol Weekly

June 23, 2011

Space is limited, reserve your seat today! – Details and registration at www.capitolweekly.net

Capitol Weekly and the University of California are jointly sponsoring a day-long conference to discuss the California Coastal Commission – its decision-making, its interaction with the public, the fulfillment of its goals, its impact on California’s economy, its impact on individual property owners and, most of all, its future.

o       A balanced, spirited and informative discussion.

o       Hear from commission staff, environmentalists, local government representatives, property-rights advocates, elected officials and political strategists. We anticipate several panel discussions targeting environmental protection, the commission and the public, the commission and politics, local government issues, property rights and other topics.  We also anticipate -- and encourage -- question-answer sessions with the audience.

o       Participants (to date) include: Keynote speaker Peter Douglas, executive director of the Coastal Commission; California Resources Secretary John Laird; Rusty Areias, former Assemblyman and Coastal Commission chair; Paul Beard, attorney, Pacific Legal Foundation; Ann Notthoff, Natural Resources Defense Council; Chris Scheuring, California Farm Bureau Federation; Assemblyman Rich Gordon;  former Assemblyman Pedro Nava; Bill Allayaud, Environmental Working Group. Confirmation of others -- including land-trust and environmental legal experts -- is pending.

o       Continental breakfast and lunch included.

The event will be held June 23 at the Crest Theater in Sacramento, 10th and K Streets, lower level, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Registration begins at 8 a.m. The cost is $199. To register, call Kathy Brown at 916 444-7665, ext. 151, or email her at kathy.brown@capitolweekly.net. Online registration is available here or at www.capitolweekly.net.

We hope you can attend.

This conference is part of a series of gatherings cosponsored by Capitol Weekly and the University of California targeting issues of major public importance.
