Maintaining Safety During Community Outreach
When serving your community, you don’t always know what environment you will be walking into. In the Human Service field, avoiding the “risky” areas is NOT an option! This program will provide direct care workers with ways to stay safe while working with your clients. Captain Matthew Moriarty of the Holyoke Police Department will share the resources and information you need to know to best serve your community without compromising your safety. Then tune into our expert panel as they share their stories as well as their best tips for staying safe on the job.

- In-depth review of personal safety strategies and recommendations for outreach workers
- Communication techniques and ways to build trust during outreach
- Building proactive safety knowledge and reactive safety plans.
Presenter:
Captain Matthew Moriarty: A lifelong Holyoke resident, Matthew still lives and raises his own family in town. He served 20 years with the 104th Fighter Wing out of Westfield, Air National Guard. He has been a Police Officer for 25 years! While on the force, he has served on Patrol, The Emergency Response team, (Tactical Unit), Detective Bureau Commander, Community Policing Commander, and the Training Division Commander. He is currently the Commanding Officer of Operations (patrol), Dispatch, Records, IT and Building Maintenance. He was a 1st Responder /CPR Instructor, RAD (Rape Aggression Defense) Instructor and Firearms Instructor. In addition, he created/oversees the Special Event Detail and is the Funeral Event Officer.
