December 9, 2021 NDNY-FCBA 18th Annual CLE, Meeting and Dinner

The NDNY-Federal Court Bar Association cordially invites you to attend its Eighteenth Anniversary Annual CLE, Meeting and Dinner program on Thursday, December 9, 2021 at Craftsman Inn, 7300 E. Genesee Street, Fayetteville, NY 13066.  We will once again offer bus service round trip from Albany and Utica to Syracuse and back.

The day will begin with two CLE Programs:  “Supreme Court's Decision in Alston vs. NCAA, and its Ramifications" at 1:30 p.m. ending at 2:45 p.m. worth 1.5 hours of Skills credits.

This program will discuss the Supreme Court’s reasoning and holding in Alston v. NCAA, wherein the Supreme Court unanimously held that the NCAA could not enforce certain rules limiting the education-related benefits that colleges offer their athletes.  Under Alston, colleges can begin immediately offering incentives other than tuition to athletes, including computers, graduate scholarships, tutoring, and up to $5,900 in cash for academic awards.

The second CLE program is: "Care Giver Bias in the Legal Profession" at 3:00 p.m. - 4:15 p.m. worth 1.5 hours of Diversity, Inclusion and Elinmination of Bias credits.

Sometimes known as the “motherhood penalty” or “family responsibilities discrimination,” the concept of “caregiver bias” has increasingly become a topic of  discussion in the legal profession.  This type of bias is based on an (incorrect) assumption that caregivers will prioritize their families over their careers, and, therefore, will be less committed to their jobs or less available to their employers.  This program will provide insight into the presence of caregiver bias in the legal profession and the importance of being aware of and challenging instances of such bias.  The panelists will discuss their own experiences with caregiver bias throughout their legal careers and tactics for interrupting this bias within the legal profession.
