             Re-creating a Sense of Safety

                  "Growth and Resilience After Tragedy"

Join us in welcoming Judith Norman, MA, LPC, LSC, RPT-S on November 7th and 9th for the virtual workshop on Re-creating Sense of Safety - Growth and Resilience After Tragedy.

When we experience tragedy our view of the world can be changed in an instant. Disorientation creates a loss in a sense of safety.  We no longer perceive we know what to expect next, as we struggle to make sense of things. The recent school shootings have us all questioning what to do, and how to support our young people. Together, we’ll explore how to help re-create a sense of safety.

As a society, we’ve had several collective traumas over the past few years. These events have become part of the fabric of who we are, however, this doesn’t mean they have to define us, nor our children. Understanding the neurobiology of trauma gives us guidance in how to offer support. We’ll explore a timeline approach to interventions to guide our work now and, in the future, as integrating these events will be on-going.

Learn to facilitate processing in ways that build empowerment and resilience. This is vital as feeling empowered, with an internal locust of control, is a strong protective factor against PTSD symptoms. We’ll focus on one-on-one support, and strategies for working in groups, in both school and clinical settings. Using the tenets of Synergetic Play TherapyŽ, we can learn to move through these challenging moments in ways that develop the resilience of our clients and ourselves.

Specific Learning Objectives: (we need at least 3 objectives)

  1.  Participants will examine the neurobiology of trauma.
  1. Participants will explore a timeline approach to effective interventions.
  2. Participants will learn strategies for moving towards integration and promoting empowerment.
  3. Participants will examine the importance of ventral vagal activation for developing resilience.
