Doing business with the Government & 10 Top Rules for Writing a Competitive Proposal

Overview: This workshop provides all the necessary details of what you need to know about the Federal buying market and how to successfully write a winning proposal. The first portion of the workshop covers an overview of the Federal buying market, where to search for contract opportunities, and direct access to key contracting resources. The next second half covers the nuts and bolts of the proposal writing process, and how to develop a winning strategy.

 Topics included in the first half (45 minutes):

  • basic government contracting rules and practices
  • how to become a qualified government contractor
  • how to search for contracting opportunities
  • how to market and sell to the government

 Topics included in the second half (one and ½ hours):

  • how to build value added government relationships
  • how to develop a winning strategy
  • how to respond to an RFQ/RFP
  •  how to increase your chance of winning a government contract

HANH KENT, a SCORE counselor and an award-winning Supplier Diversity Consultant. Before joining SCORE, Hanh led and managed an award-winning Small Business Program at Berkeley Lab for 10 years and served as the subject matter expert in providing guidance on diversity in government contracting. Most who know Hanh would call her a Champion of the Small Business Community-- a true representation of Walk the Talk. Hanh has received many awards for her passion and contribution to the success of the Small Business community, including the prestigious 2014 Supplier Diversity Champion Award by the Minority Business Development Agency. Ms. Kent received her B.A degree in Marketing from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis and a MBA from Webster University, St. Louis, Missouri.



DRU BURKS, Director of Marketing and co-founder of GaMBiT4, LLC, Dru Burks has over 40 years of effective, efficient, and results-oriented experience as a Federal Executive leader.  He has had management and oversight responsibilities directing information technology (IT) programs, performing organizational assessments, is an executive coach, mentor, and a dynamic public speaker dedicated to client service. Under the purview of a Federal Government Chief Information Officer with U.S. Geological Survey, Dru managed IT Government resources in excess of $175M through promoting and selling IT, geographic information systems (GIS) and science products and services, including Government marketing and advertising. Dru became a Chief Information Manager at the Department of Energy’s Oakland Operation Office where he provided information management and oversight to the Oakland Operations Office, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, and Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. He received a Telecommunications Certification from California State University in Sacramento and degrees in Business and Public Administration.
