About the Workshop: This training explores the main principles and definitions used in the Risk, Needs, Responsivity (RNR) model. It also provides a framework for the application of RNR along the criminal justice continuum as follows:

1. The risk principle states that the level of service should match an offender’s risk of reoffending.

2. The need principle states that corrections agencies should assess an offender’s dynamic criminal risk factors, often called criminogenic needs, and focus treatment on those.

3. The responsivity principle essentially entails providing the right treatment at the right level.

Additionally the training will introduce the participants to the RNR Simulation Tool which is designed to assist justice agencies in determining what forms of programming will be most effective in reducing recidivism and improving offender outcomes within their population. The tool is also designed to guide resource allocation and help criminal justice agencies identify service provision gaps. It is made up of three linkable portals that provide decision-support at the offender, program, and system level: assess an Individual; the RNR Program Tool; and Assess Jurisdiction's Capacity. Used together, these tools can have a significant impact on recidivism at a system level.
