Taste of Global Cuisine May 11- June 1, 2019 

Learn healthful cooking tips and tricks from the world’s great cuisines as cooked by your neighbors! 

Heartland Health Centers offers regular nutrition classes to patients. We invite the community in to join us by watching a different local chef prepare their global cuisine on Saturdays from May 11 to June 1.  Of course the proof will be in the eating! 

At each class a neighborhood chef will demonstrate how to prepare a dish from their own cultures: Middle Eastern, West African, Latin American and Southeast Asian. 

Besides watching and learning, neighbors will get a quick lesson about what makes each recipe super healthy, and then, of course, the tasting begins! 

Here are the details:

 

 

  • 11:30 a.m. Saturday May 11: Middle Eastern (Chef Meelak).  Chef Meelak cooks. At HHC--Albany Park, 3737 W. Lawrence Ave.
  • 3 p.m. Saturday, May 18: West African (Vee-Vee's).  Chefs ChiChi and Vivian Ezeji, owners of Vee-Vee’s African Restaurant, share tips and tastes of West-African cuisine. Friendship Center, 2711 W. Lawrence Ave.
  • 3 p.m. Saturday, May 25: Latin American (Tortuga's Latin Kitchen).  Led by Chef Jairo Lopez at the restaurant he owns. Tortuga’s Latin Kitchen, 3224 W. Lawrence Ave.
  • 3 p.m. Saturday, June 1: Southeast Asian (Surprise chef!).  Southeast Asian cooking demonstration and tasting. Cambodian Association of Illinois, 2831 W. Lawrence Ave.
