West Harlem Group Assistance, Inc. 45th Anniversary Fundraising Gala  

On Tuesday, October 18, 2016, West Harlem Group Assistance, Inc. (WHGA) will be celebrating its 45th Anniversary of community building and development in the Harlem community at their 45^th Anniversary Fundraiser Gala sponsored by BNY Mellon, Chase, Columbia University, LISC, NEF, Phipps, SP Contractors and Mega Contracting Group, LLC. This celebration will take place at ESPACE Ballroom in Manhattan, located at 635 West 42^nd Street, New York from 6:00-9:30pm. 

45 years ago, a handful of Harlem citizens determined to rebuild and revitalize a deteriorating neighborhood established WHGA. Since that time, WHGA has been a catalyst for community development and social services, building an affordable housing portfolio comprised of over 1,200 units.  Over the past 45 years, WHGA has maintained an energetic mission to improve Harlem’s physical and economic outlook. This event will help us to raise critical funds that will support our comprehensive housing development portfolio and our community and social service programs, while recognizing outstanding leaders and community activists who have contributed to WHGA’s success as well as the community at large.

Headlining the Gala will be world-renowned American Jazz and Pop Singer, Jean Carn. Zambian Guitarist, Robert Mwamba and chic NYC based jazz duo, Acute Inflections - Vocalist & Bassist will be performing as well.

Reginald Higgins, Principal of P.S. 125-Ralph Bunche School will receive this year’s Community Service Award. Hazel Dukes, President of the NAACP, NYS Conference and David Dinkins, 106^th Mayor of the City of New York will be presented with this year’s Leadership Awards. 

Several past distinguished honorees that have received the West Harlem Group Assistance Award are: Adam Weinstein; President, Phipps Houses, Congressman Charles B. Rangel; United States House of Representatives 15^th Congressional District of New York State, Reverend Georgiette Morgan-Thomas; Community Board #9 Chair, C. Virginia Fields; President and CEO, National Black Leadership Commission on AIDS, Inc, Denise Scott (former Managing Director) of LISC NYC, amongst many others.
