Diversity and Social Innovation in Changing Communities - Home: Documentary Screening and Panel Discussion

This panel event, focusing on the theme of Diversity and Social Innovation in changing communities, will showcase the documentary HOME: Stories of Newcomers to Newfoundland & Labrador, bringing together participants featured in the film and others behind the scenes.

This 25-minute documentary features firsthand accounts of arrival, integration, and settlement in St. John’s, Gander, Corner Brook, and Labrador City. Nine newcomers appear on screen to discuss the opportunities and challenges of adapting to life in the province from the perspectives of student, parent, worker, professional, refugee, and new Canadian.

The event will include a panel discussion with some of the documentaries contributors and film makers and will focus on the realities of living as a newcomer in rural and urban towns across Newfoundland and Labrador, how to harness the strength and innovation that newcomers bring to various industries and institutions, and the positive impact that diversity is having on the overall social and economic fabric of modern day Newfoundland and Labrador.
