Vitreous Membranes, Strands, and Floaters:  A Neglected Ocular Problem
Description:Vitreous membranes, strands and floaters cause meaningful symptomatology, which is generally not reflected in visual acuity testing.  Patients often note increased symptoms after cataract extraction.  This is exacerbated with the popularity of smart phones, tablets, and computers, as patients currently have increasing visually intense activities and expectations.  Improvements in vitrectomy surgical technique include wide-angle viewing and illumination systems that enhance surgeon monitoring, small-gauge instrumentation requiring no traditional incisions or sutures, and high speed cutters that decrease the risk of retinal tears.

Description: In this course we will discuss the need to create distinction in eye care. We will review diagnosis and treatment protocols for dry eye, allergy and glaucoma. We will review benefits to the patient and the practice for having protocols for these conditions in place and evaluate how to implement them in practice for better, more efficient patient care. Review of these diseases and the technology that can be utilized to enhance patient care will also be evaluated.

Description: This course will define distinction in contact lenses and why it matters in clinical practice. Lab Testing the Basics
Description: The following interactive presentation will explore the various lab testing used in the diagnosis of systemic conditions that have associated manifestations in the eye and ocular structures. Common ocular conditions and the associated systemic diseases will be reviewed with an emphasis on what tests should be ordered and what the optometric physician should know once the results are back.
