Join the Delaware Center for Justice for our annual conference—this year attendees will explore current pretrial and bail reform efforts in Delaware and nationwide. Visions of Justice 2017 will feature presentations from national experts in the field, breakout information sessions, and a panel debate featuring local representatives from all sides of this important issue.

Breakout sessions will explore:

  • Youth and Bail- How are kids and adults treated differently pretrial?  Speakers will discuss how youth are treated pretrial and unpack why those under 18 may need different protections.
  • Bail 101- How are release decisions determined in Delaware? What is the difference between secured and unsecured bail? Speakers will discuss a brief history of bail in the United States and what current law dictates in Delaware.
  • Risk Assessment 101- What do we mean when we say "risk?" How does risk assessment factor into release decisions? Speakers will give an overview of the science behind risk assessment and will also discuss its limitations.
  • Constitutional Considerations- What constitutional protections exist for individuals awaiting trial? Speakers will explore existing caselaw and constitutional challenges to pretrial practices nationwide.
  • And more!
