February Virtual Meeting

Although because of Covid-19, mass shooting incidents have decreased in the US, active shooter and workplace violence are still a concern for insureds.

Invited: Any Pacific Northwest CPCU Society Chapter Member, Candidate Member, and any Friend of the Pacific Northwest CPCU Society Chapter.

When: Thursday, February 11th, 11:50 am to 1:05 pm

Where: Zoom

What: Active Shooter / Workplace Violence Risk & Insurance Programs

Summary: This one-hour seminar is designed to teach agents and brokers about Active Shooter / Workplace Violence Risk & Insurance Programs. By learning about Active Shooter / Workplace Violence Risk & Insurance Programs, agents and brokers will better serve their clients as well as avoid E&O situations.

The rising numbers of Active Shooter / Deadly Weapon attacks are a bit staggering with organizations having a duty of care to maintain a safe environment for staff and visitors. In the event of an active shooter attack, they could be held liable. There are significant challenges to organizations in securing their place of business while managing a vast throughput of people. These organizations are particularly at risk from a lone attacker who could enter unchallenged. Organizations have realized large financial losses and have been successfully sued for negligent security.

Speaker: Paul Marshall – Managing Director - Crisis Risk / Active Shooter / Workplace Violence Insurance Programs, The McGowan Companies

Paul Marshall, has 25+ years of insurance and risk management expertise and are responsible for the formation, growth, profitability, and overall strategy of McGowan’s Crisis Risk / Workplace Violence / Active Assailant Insurance Programs. Since the program’s inception in 2015, his team has become the largest underwriter in this class off business having underwritten over 5,500 of inquiries via 900+ agent partners and currently insure over 1,000+ businesses, organizations, and events throughout the Unites States. In 2017 Paul Marshall was appointed AXA XL’s exclusive underwriting program administrator for Workplace Violence and in 2019 Paul Marshall was provided Lloyds Underwriting Binder Authority with their Lloyds Active Assailant program receiving formal Lloyds of London Tribunalization.

Paul and team provide ongoing national webinars each month for the last 5 years and have authored multiple articles / blogs / podcasts on the topics of active shooter, workplace violence, and deadly weapon attacks.  In addition, they frequently present at national conferences and interviews with news outlets such as AM Best, Reuters, National Underwriter and present at industry conferences including RIMS, Big I, PIA, PRIMA, URMIA, Crittenden and Lloyds CHART.

The current marketing campaigns and national CE seminars have been very successful educating small to medium size retail agencies in every state.  The program has also seen a significant increase in the larger agencies and has seen an awakening with the Wholesale Brokerage and E&S community to this new line of coverage and we have been pleased to see new business from most of these larger US brokers.  These larger organizations are desperately trying to build their own Crisis Risk expertise and currently depend on Paul and his team rather than traditional Lloyd’s desk underwriters of other competing markets.

Watch for additional South Sound, New Member, & other Good Works events!  South Sound Events will be scheduled in February/March and Sept/November.
