Far too many boards are merely mediocre. (Even those that claim greatness.)
Far too few are really good. (Even those with the most sophisticated members.)
And far too many are rather dysfunctional. (Not incompetent but...)
How's your board? Learn (and apply) the right governance stuff. The right stuff does make a difference.
Come along for tough talk that improves board member understanding and performance - thus building better boards.

Board members and fundraising - roles and limitations
The board as a whole doesn't do much in fundraising. But individual board members can be a big help. Not necessarily lots and lots...But certainly quite a bit.
So... What can board members do in fundraising? How will you, he staff, help them do this work?
And by the way... who's in charge?

Simone P. Joyaux, ACFRE, Adv Dip is described as “one of the most thoughtful, inspirational, and provocative leaders in the philanthropic sector.” In 2017, she began her 30th year as a consultant specializing in fund development, strategic planning, and board development. Simone speaks worldwide, enjoying the opportunity to work with colleagues outside the USA. She also teaches in the philanthropy graduate program at a US university. She’s written three books: Keep Your Donors. Strategic Fund. Firing Lousy Board Members, She’s also contributed to several other books, writes for the Nonprofit Quarterly, and blogs as Simone Uncensored. Simone serves regularly on boards, often as Chair. Currently, she’s immediate past chair of Planned Parenthood of Southern New England, and the Advisory Board of the Hartsook Centre for Sustainable Philanthropy in the U.K., founded by Adrian Sargeant.
