Seasons of Care Gap Practices: Lively Ways Caregivers Can Capture Moments of Selfcare

Seasons of Care™ is a care-for-the-caregiver program which integrates the mindful and spiritual dimensions of caregiving to promote wellness using the contemplative and expressive arts. SOC has developed a series of “gap practices, simple, uplifting activities caregivers can do throughout their day to practice selfcare, ensure a heartfelt connection to caregiving and cultivate resilience.

Webinar Objectives:

1. Explore the value of the contemplative and expressive arts and their impact on caregiving.
2. Describe two aspects of mindfulness in selfcare.
3. Identify two ways to “let go” and release stress through gap practices.
4. Describe 4-6 gap practices that caregivers can use throughout their day to increase well-being.


Speakers:

Andrea Sherman, PhD., Co-Founder, Transitional Keys™ & Seasons of Care™


Andrea is a gerontologist, public speaker, and choreographer; she is Co-Founder and President of Transitional Keys, and the program Seasons of Care™.

Dr. Sherman is Curriculum Consultant to the GRECC at the Veterans Affairs in the Bronx, where she also leads Seasons of Care workshops for a caregivers support group.   Previously she was Curriculum Consultant to the National Center for Creative Aging, Project Director of the Consortium of New York Geriatric Education Centers, and is a Fellow of the New York Academy of Medicine, the Gerontological Society of America. She is a graduate of the Foundations of Contemplative Care program and most recently co-led workshops for Hearts of Valor, which provides support for family caregivers of veterans.

Marsha Weiner, MA, Co-Founder, Transitional Keys™ & Seasons of Care™


Marsha is trained as hospital chaplain and in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction meditation. She is co-founder of Transitional Keys and the Seasons of Care™ programs and has given workshops and presentations of those programs at Kripalu Yoga and Wellness Center, George Washington University Summer Institute for Grief, Loss and Life Transitions, George Washington University Nurse Leadership Institute, Hebrew Home of Greater Washington DC, National Brain Tumor Association.  Most recently she co-led a retreat for Hearts of Valor, which provides support for family caregivers. In addition she is a writer and producer and has worked in various media including print, broadcast and interactive media.
