PPAL Welcomes

Katherine Perry-Lorentz, Esq.

Katie Perry-Lorentz has recently been named the new DYS JDAI Statewide Coordinator. Katie first joined DYS in 2021 as a JDAI Detention Reform Specialist after working as an attorney for CPCS in its Youth Advocacy Division. As a JDAI Detention Reform Specialist, Katie leveraged her legal experience and knowledge of systems to develop relationships with key external partners from other child welfare/ juvenile justice agencies that are integral to the successful implementation of JDAI. Katie’s strong background in law, positive youth development, knowledge of the juvenile justice system, and her understanding of the myriad challenges faced by youth and families of color in the juvenile justice/ child welfare system uniquely qualify her for her new role, and her experience, dedication, and commitment ensure DYS is well-positioned to continue driving change and system improvement and achieve positive outcomes for all youth in Massachusetts.

PPAL's December 2022 Statewide Meeting:

The Dangers of Detention

This meeting is for parents, caregivers, family members, family partners, and peer leaders with experience supporting children with emotional, behavioral, or mental health needs. Young adults and recovery coaches also welcome!

Featured Speaker:
Katherine Perry-Lorentz, Esq.

It is important to understand the real dangers of detention and the data dashboard that follows.

Take a live look at Massachusetts data around the juvenile justice system to understand:

  • How we can divert children from entering detention.
  • The data that shows the children connected to detention
  • The dangers and diversion that is happening in the state.

We encourage you to be open to hearing what is being worked on in the Juvenile Detention Alternatives Initiative (JDAI) in Massachusetts!

Parent/Professional Advocacy League (PPAL) is a statewide family-run organization dedicated to improving the mental health and well-being of children, youth and families through education, advocacy and partnership.
