Dr. Kevin Griess, Deputy Garrison Commander at Fort Bragg, NC

Dr. Kevin Griess is from Sutton, Nebraska, a retired Air Force veteran and a long serving Army Civilian Professional Installation Manager.  He is the Deputy Garrison Commander at Fort Bragg, NC.  Griess began his Department of the Army civilian career in 2003 as the Installation Anti-Terrorism Manager at United States Army Garrison (USAG) Humphreys, South Korea and has had successive assignments and promotions as Director, DPTMS (S3); Director, Emergency Services; Chief, Plans and Integration Office at USAG Humphreys and Deputy Garrison Commander positions at the battalion and brigade level at USAG Schweinfurt and USAG Ansbach, Germany.  Following a developmental assignment to the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Installations, Energy and Environment (ASA IEE), he served as the first Installation Management Command (IMCOM)-Europe Liaison to Headquarters IMCOM in San Antonio. 

Prior to assignment at Fort Bragg, he was the brigade level Deputy Garrison Commander for USAG Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany since 2017.

Prior to serving with the Army, Griess had a successful career in military law enforcement in the U.S. Air Force in positions ranging from Security Forces K-9 handler, trainer/supervisor to Superintendent, Installation Law Enforcement and Nuclear Weapons Security.  His assignments included Osan Air Base, Korea; Travis Air Force Base (AFB), California; Lackland AFB, Texas; Vandenberg, AFB, California and FE Warren AFB, Wyoming.

Griess has a bachelor’s degree in Workforce Development from Southern Illinois University; master’s degree in Human Resources and Information Technology from Lesley University; Master of Public Administration from Harvard University; master’s degree in National Security from Industrial College of the Armed Forces (now Eisenhower School) and a doctorate in Organizational Leadership from Capella University.

The Defense Alliance of North Carolina (DANC) Goverment Relations Purpose:

  1. Assist the Executive Director and Senior Director in reviewing issues related to the Defense Alliance of North Carolina (DANC) and provide advice and recommendations to the DANC Executive Board and Management Council regarding same.
  2. Monitor State and Federal legislative agendas to identify legislation that is relevant to the DANC membership; provide recommendations, if appropriate, to the DANC Executive board and Management Council on policy positions.
  3. Develop strategies to educate DANC members on relevant government related issues
  4. Develop strategies to educate and communicate with legislators, organizations and other relevant parties regarding the Defense Alliance of North Carolina (DANC) and our position on any particular legislative issue as directed by the DANC Executive Board and Management Council
  5. Identify statewide and national associations with similar interests and provide recommendations and advice to the DANC Executive board and Management Council concerning opportunities to align organizations to strengthen advocacy on key issues.
