Springfield Climate Justice Initiative Virtual Community Conversation

We invite you to a community conversation on climate change, health and equity.

Help us identify the key policy ideas that can reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve air quality and improve health and address racism.

In our zoom workshop, you will learn more about the four policies listed below. We need residents like yourself to tell us which one of these policy ideas would be most important to your friends and family and would make Springfield a safe, healthy equitable place to live. Your feedback in this workshop will help us design a campaign to address the negative health impacts of climate change on people of color.

Potential Policies:

Community Choice Energy
A program the city of Springfield could set up to switch everyone in the city on basic Eversource electricity service over to clean energy like solar, wind, and hydropower

Free and Safe Public Transit
All PVTA bus rides in the city will be free and safe for everyone

Race & Health Equity Assessment
Require consideration of the racial and health impacts on people of color and other minority groups when the city begins a new project or procedure.

Complete Streets Prioritization in Previously Redlined Neighborhoods
Invest more in sidewalks, bikeways, and transit in the neighborhoods in the city that historically have been under-invested in.
