Well recognized across the church, Lisa Kimball and Tricia Lyons visibly claim their baptismal calls in their life together, their commitments in the church, their professional roles, and the relationships they cultivate. They share a belief that never in our lifetimes have our baptismal renunciations and affirmations mattered more than now. Their presentations emphasize that healthy societies need rites of passage and see Baptism not as an event but a continuing process of development - a beginning that has no end in which something actually happens that changes us forever.  They will share their stories as a baptized lay person and a baptized priest as well as a couple committed to the marriage of faith formation and evangelism.

Elisabeth Kimball, PhD is the Associate Dean of Lifelong Learning and the James Maxwell Professor Chair of Lifelong Christian Formation at Virginia Theological Seminary. She has focused her teaching and research on lifelong, life-wide, and life-deep discipleship and Christian vocation in contemporary, global and post-institutional contexts. She is a passionate advocate for lay ministry, the full inclusion of all generations, digital literacy, and leaders who are confident teachers of the faith. In addition to frequent keynote presentations at diocesan conventions, clergy conferences, religious education guilds and networks, Dr. Kimball’s commitment to the wider church includes serving as Chair of the Standing Committee on Formation and Ministry of the Baptized; co-founding of the Episcopal Confirmation Collaborative; serving on the Way of Love resource development team; and being the Episcopal representative on the Journey to Baptismal Living faculty team writing an ecumenical rite for the catechumenate.

The Rev. Patricia Lyons, DMin teaches evangelism, works with the Lifelong Learning team, and serves as the Senior Advisor to the Dean for Evangelism Initiatives at Virginia Theological Seminary. She also directs the EvangelismFormationLab@VTS, a digital portal on YouTube and Facebook offering original content from the Seminary as well as thoughtful curation of resources in evangelism and formation for the wider church. Dr. Lyons was a lay chaplain and teacher of religion in Episcopal schools for 20 years before being ordained a priest and then serving parishes in Washington, DC, eventually serving as Canon for Evangelism in the Episcopal Diocese of Washington. Currently, Tricia serves as a non-stipendiary priest at the Church of Saint Clement in Alexandria, VA., is a member of the Presiding Bishop’s Strategic Cabinet on Evangelism, and is one of the original writers of the “Way of Love.”
