Some of us stumbled into this life when our once-secular spouse heard an unexpected call, or when love led us from an unchurched life into a world of new jargon. For others, growing up as a PK made parsonage life seem normal, and work in church ecosystems feels like home as well. For Susie Erdey, daughter and granddaughter of pastors, nothing seemed more in keeping with tradition than that her wife should be a priest. Join us in May as Susie shares insights from a life shaped by her own lay ministries, others’ ordained paths, and the tides of history.

A Midwesterner by birth, Susie Erdey is a church lifer. Despite growing up in parsonage fish-bowls (her grandfather, uncle, and father were German Reformed and Hungarian Reformed pastors) and knowing full well what she was getting into, she married an Episcopal priest, Jan Nunley. They live in New York's Lower Hudson Valley in a 1915 Arts & Crafts foursquare known as "Fallengutter." Vocationally serving as a communication, development, and management professional for nonprofit organizations, Susie has worked with faith-based organizations and secular nonprofits and is currently the development director for an environmental education and nature preserve. Susie has never met a cookbook that didn't follow her home. She is also an obsessive rower, organic gardener, and is never seen without her pearls.
