Nancy Murakami is a clinical social worker and the director of social services at the Bellevue/NYU Program for Survivors of Torture (PSOT), a comprehensive torture treatment center in New York City addressing the complex needs of torture survivors. An adjunct assistant professor at the NYU Silver School of Social Work, Nancy trains in New York City and across the country on topics including trauma informed care, refugee services, clinical approaches, and staff wellbeing.  Prior to joining PSOT, Nancy was the director of counseling training for the non-profit organization Burma Border Projects, based on the Thai-Burma border at Dr. Cynthia Maung’s Mae Tao Clinic in Mae Sot, Thailand, providing services to the displaced Burmese communities inside Burma and in Thailand. She is co-editor of Trauma and Recovery on War's Border: A Guide for Global Health Workers, a book in the Geisel Series in Global Health and Medicine.

 Ms. Murakami received her master’s degree in social work from Columbia University, with a concentration in international social welfare and program development and evaluation. She received specialized clinical training in therapeutic methods of addressing the impact of psychological trauma on children, adults and families while at the Anti-Trafficking Program and Counseling Center of Safe Horizon, a New York City advocacy and assistance agency for victims of crime and abuse. Prior to becoming a licensed clinical social worker, Nancy taught secondary school and led health and gender-based initiatives in rural communities in Malawi, Africa, as a Peace Corps Volunteer.

Shana Pughe Dean is the Manager of Strategic Initiatives and Training and Translation Manager for TONE.  Through her roles Shana supports the translation department, online content management, and the development and delivery of cultural competency training.  

Ms. Pugh Dean  holds a B.A. from Utica College in International Studies with minors in Human Rights and Spanish and a M.A. in International Relations from the Maxwell School at Syracuse University. Shana has presented at the North American Refugee Healthcare Conference, the New York State School Boards Association, moderated a session at the 2014 Unspoken Conference, and will be a co-presenter at the American Translators Association Conference in November 2016.
