You must book your hotel room directly with the Illinois Beach Resort and Conference Center by calling 847-625-7300. We have a special rate of $101 per night for up to 4 people in a room. Reservations must be made by September 25th to ensure the special rate and availability.

The Program

Expand your mind and nourish your soul. Plus catch up with all the wonderful people you met at other Kallot and make new friends as well. Join the growing Mussar community in learning and celebration with Alan Morinis, Rabbi Yaakov Feldman, Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe and other Mussar teachers.

The theme of the Kallah Retreat this year is "Yirah: The Beginning of Wisdom". We'll explore and put into practice many facets of this crucial, if challenging, inner soul-trait.

Contemplative sessions of Mussar meditation, contemplation and visualization will be interspersed with sessionsfocused on the ways yirah can be cultivated and expressed in real contexts. Sessions will be experiential, include text study and offerpractical lessons that can be taken home to enhance and deepen your spirituallife and practice of Mussar. This Kallah will provide comprehensive tools to introduce and guide you in the Mussar ways to cultivate the soul in the context of community, inwardly and outwardly.

As you know from having attended before, the Kallah is a great place not only to learn from our wonderful teachers, but to learn from each other as well. We have all experienced the warmth, good fun, and invigorating connections that came from spending time with others who practice Mussar and appreciate its importance in improving our world, and ourselves. Join us for a terrific weekend

Some of this year's sessions:

  • Yirah: What the Torah Tells Us
  • Mussar chanting [hitpa'alut] to open the heart to awe and reverence
  • The Personal Experience of Yirah
  • Hitbonenut- Mussar meditation
  • Fear and Inspiration on the Spiritual Path

The Teachers

Alan Morinis will be joined at this year's Kallah by scholars-in-residence Rabbi Yaakov Feldman and Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe, two experienced and highly regarded Mussar teachers. Those of us who have studied with Rabbi Feldman before couldn't wait to have him back. And what an honor and opportunity for many of us to study with Rabbi Wolbe for the first time. You'll see why.

When and Where

The Kallah will be held at the Illinois Beach Resort on the shores of Lake Michigan outside Chicago. The Kallah begins Friday October 26 and ends at noon on Monday, October 29. Registration includes glatt kosher meals and snacks from Friday night diner through Monday breakfast.
