WaterSmart Landscape - Top Tips

• Observe all your sprinklers in operation at least 3–4 times a year.  Sprinkler heads can be bent out of alignment or be broken and leak when someone mows, edges, or drives over heads too close to the driveway. Since most sprinklers are set to operate in the wee hours of the morning, most people don’t see even obvious breaks.
• Monitor operating pressure.  High street pressure (over 85 pounds) typical in most areas should be stepped down by a pressure reducer before entering the irrigation system. Does the water coming out of your sprinklers resemble raindrops or mist? If it resembles mist, the pressure is probably too high.  Excessively high system pressure puts stress on irrigation equipment and can easily cause it to leak or break.
• Turn off irrigation during wet weather.  This seems so simple and an easy way not to waste water, but it is a very common occurrence.
