Andrew Sords

Hailed as "utterly radiant" by Canada's Arts Forum, violinist Andrew Sords has appeared with over 100 orchestras and in countless recital venues across four continents.

Maintaining a tour schedule that includes Alaska, Australia, Poland, and the Caribbean, Sords has established himself as a "voluble soloist" (Melbourne's The Age).

Profiled by Sirius XM's "The Derek and Romaine Show", NPR's Morning Edition, Pittsburgh's "Out Magazine", Mexico's "Atencion San Miguel" and many more, Sords was recently awarded the Pittsburgh Concert Society 2012 Career Grant.

Born in 1985 in Newark, Delaware, Sords later moved to Shaker Heights, Ohio, and began his violin studies with Liza Grossman. Sords completed his undergraduate education at the Cleveland Institute of Music with violin pedagogues Linda Cerone and David Russell.

Sords most recently studied under acclaimed violinist Chee-Yun at The Southern Methodist University of Dallas, Texas in the Artist Diploma program. The 2012/13 season will include recitals in the Virgin Islands, France, Washington, D.C., Cleveland, San Francisco, New York City and more.

Orchestral re-engagements will find Sords performing in Georgia, California, Pennsylvania, Texas, Ohio and others. Recently, Sords made international debuts in Mexico, Poland and Australia. Highlights included concerto appearances with the Oakland East Bay Symphony, Cleveland Philharmonic, Minnesota Philharmonic Orchestra, Northeast Orchestra, Manassas Symphony Orchestra, Altoona Symphony, and the Kalisz Philharmonic.

The festival season featured appearances at the Lakes Area Music Festival, the Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival, and others. A popular recitalist, Sords appeared internationally on the Kitchener-Waterloo Chamber Music Society and Pro-Musica of San Miguel de Allende Recital Series, as well as making his Washington D.C. debut on the Arts Club Series.

This will be Andrew's first performance at  Tony Powe's speakeasy, 2nd Floor on Clinton.
