Registration was extended until noon on August 6th. The deadline was necessary to be sure the list of participating wineries can be provided to Alaska Airlines, Travel Oregon, and the OWB website. You can register by emailing dewey@oregonwine.org but do note that your winery will not be in the official listings. This should not, however, keep you from participating and promoting the program to your tasting room guests as it may still encourage increased sales.

---------------------

The Oregon Wine Board is partnering with Alaska Airlines and Travel Oregon to bring the airline's successful "Wines Fly Free" program to Oregon wineries September 10 - November 20. The program allows Alaska Airlines customers, who fly in and out of select Oregon Airports (Medford, Redmond, Eugene and Portland) plus Walla Walla on a domestic flight, to check one case of wine at no charge.

This program is open to all Oregon wineries and there is no participation. All you need to do is commit to the simple program requirements noted below, and register. Promotional efforts will begin soon so please sign up today. Deadline for registration is July 31, 2013. See the Q & A below for more details.

By Registering You Agree To The Following

  • Alaska Airlines passengers who show their boarding pass or itinerary identifying an Alaska Airlines ticket has been purchased and is in use for travel (either on paper or digitally) through participating airports, will have their tasting fees waived at all participating wineries.
  • Guests who qualify and purchase six bottles or more will have their wine packed carefully by your winery staff, in a wine shipping container to ensure the wine travels without damage as checked luggage.
  • Your winery will promote the "Oregon Wines Fly Free" program on your website, in social media efforts, and with posters and fliers in tasting rooms using the materials supplied by the Oregon Wine Board and/or Travel Oregon.

How You Can Make The Program A Success

  • Be sure your tasting room staff are fully informed of the program and have them mention it to each guest at some time during the tasting. Some guests who fly in on Alaska Airlines may not be aware of the program and your front line team will be critical to informing them.
  • Feature the program on your winery website with digital graphics that will be provided by the Oregon Wine Board.
  • Include the details and a linkable graphic (to the information page) in your winery newsletter and email blasts. Be sure all of your contacts are aware of the program.
  • Offer proper case shippers to any guest who buys wine from you no matter the quantity. You can charge for the packaging if needed but by offering it you are encouraging additional sales as well as making it easy to get all their Oregon wine home safely.
  • Feature the program poster prominently in your tasting room.
  • Promote the program through social media efforts such as Facebook and Twitter.

Q & A

Which Wineries Can Participate?

Any Oregon winery that commits to the simple requirements noted above and registers with the required details may participate.

Will This Apply To Each Customer Who Is Flying Alaska?

Each ticketed passenger who visits your tasting room and shows their inbound boarding pass for a participating Oregon airport and Walla Walla, is to have their tasting fee waived and will be allowed one case to be checked free of charge. So, if a group comes in and each person has a proper boarding pass they are to be allowed to participate.

How Many Cases Can They Check For Free?

Only one case per person can be checked free of charge. Additional cases will be charged the regular baggage fee.

If A Passenger Connects With Other Airlines Can They Still Check The Case Of Oregon Wine At No Charge?

Yes, unless the case is retrieved from baggage and rechecked at any stopover such as when connecting to international flights. Generally, the case will fly free to all 50 states.

Which Oregon Airports Is This Program Valid At?

Portland, Medford, Eugene, Redmond are the airports served by Alaska Airlines and all qualify for the program. Because there are Oregon wineries near the Walla Walla airport it is included in the Oregon program.

Must A Passenger Fly In And Out Of The Same Airport To Take Advantage Of This Offer?

No, as long as they fly in and out of the noted Oregon airports or  Walla Walla they are eligible to take advantage of the waived tasting fee and complimentary case check.

Is This A Permanent Program?

No, this program is only valid from September 10 - November 20, 2013. Continuation or a repeat of the program at another time will be determined by the success of this first effort.
