 Dinner Presentation "Sustainable Refrigeration Systems: Trends and Practices"

Presentation Summary: Refrigeration is employed throughout the global cold chain, from farm to home, as well as many other industrial and commercial applications.  Increased competition and climate change are both driving important and necessary advancements in industrial and commercial refrigeration systems.  The refrigeration cycle is also critically important in the decarbonization of buildings and industry when used for heating.  This presentation will describe challenges and opportunities for higher efficiency and reduced greenhouse gas emissions through improved design practice and low-GWP system technology, particularly using natural refrigerants.  

BIODoug Scott is President and Founder of VaCom Technologies, based in California, and now a BITZER Group Company.  He has extensive experience in the industrial and commercial refrigeration industry, including development of efficient refrigeration technologies, industrial automation systems and real-time performance analytics.  He is actively involved in ASHRAE, IIAR and other industry organizations.

BIO: Bob graduated from Nasson College, Idaho State University and did his doctorate at the University of Rhode Island.  He started in the industry in 1986, has been an ASHRAE member for 24 years and has served as President for two ASHRAEChapters, So Cal and Orange Empire.  Bob is currently serving as the Chapter Treasurer for the Orange County ASPE Chapter.  He has been specializing in boiler application, steam and combustion technology since 1995.  Bob currently works for Raypak as a Consultant as well as a District Manager.

 

Dinner Presentation "Balanced Energy"

Southern California Gas Company

BIO: Ken is currently the Business/Policy Manager for Southern California Gas Company. He is responsible for developing key, broad-based relationships with business, government and non-profit stakeholders to provide balanced input to policy priorities and direction.  Ken has over 20 years of experience in the energy/utility industry and has worked in both policy and operational capacities.  Additionally, he has worked as a non-profit manager and a university administrator. 

Ken has participated on many local non-profit boards and commissions, most of which focus on Municipal Governance, Youth, and/or public education. He is currently a Board member of Coro Southern California, Legacy Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Economic Development Corporation Executive Committee, Sustain SoCal and the Environmental Leadership Institute.  He holds a BA in Political Science from UCLA, a MA in Public Policy from Claremont and is a graduate of the Coro Fellows Program in Public Affairs. He currently lives in Pasadena with his wife, Dr. Lan Nguyen-Chawkins and has two college-aged daughters, Dania and Emma.
