ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
Tell me and I will forget, Teach me and I will remember, but Involve me and I will learn!!!!

In this 2 day mini workshop on Pouring Watercolors, I will TELL you, TEACH you, and I will most certainly INVOLVE you in learning to Pour Watercolors to portray light and contrast in a painting using only three primary colors and the use of very little direct painting with brushes and then watch as the pigments dance and mingle and have a party on paper.

*Will discover how using just red, yellow, and blue, mixed in separate containers, a drawing, wet paper secured to a hard surface, and some strategically placed masking fluid to preserve light and layers will capture a dramatic and exciting painting!

*Will learn masking tips to effectively create a design to protect the white and learn to mask areas according to values within layers in this poured watercolor painting.

*Will learn what pigments to use and are best suited for pouring watercolors, the different consistencies required and useful information for planning, mixing, and as well adjusting hues.
I will give examples to indicate how watercolor pouring can be used for any desired style of creating a painting i.e. landscape, portraits, waterscapes, cityscapes, and florals.

I will provide a B&W sketch at the workshop as well as color photo in class. You will either draw quickly or transfer the drawing to your paper using transfer paper in class.

We will complete one full 11”x14” painting over the 2-day period.
I will fully explain, demo, and guide you on your journey.

Plan to sketch this for the workshop (see link for description and supplies above for more information):

About the Artist

I currently live in Utah, but over the years I have lived in California, Idaho, and Washington state. My family and I moved back to Utah some 24 years ago to be close to our extended family. I am married to a wonderful and very supportive husband of 46 years., have two amazing sons and daughter-in-law’s and blessed with two wonderful grandchildren and grand-dogs. I am an absolute lover of Boston Terriers and have a beautiful little girl that keeps me company in my art studio having deep conversations about all the beauty around us. Of course she doesn’t always agree with me.

Some 40 years ago my husband, an avid photographer, introduced a new world to me. I became very passionate about photography. We have since photographed people, flowers, oceans, mountains, landscapes, and cityscapes around the world.

I discovered watercolors in 2007 just prior to retiring in 2008. To be able to photograph the beautiful world around me and then paint it, just fills me with joy! My youngest son convinced me to produce YouTube tutorials about 4 years ago and I thought who would want to watch me paint. Well it seems I have gained a few thousand followers over the years and have met many wonderful people. Those followers have enjoyed learning many techniques, tips, and how-to’s through my tutorials. I also teach watercolors privately in my home studio in Saratoga Springs, Utah.

5 years ago I began exploring Watercolor Pouring. Using only three primary colors, a good drawing, wet paper, some masking fluid in strategic areas in layers you can create a very dramatic and exciting painting as the pigments dance and mingle and have a party on paper.

Every artist feels passionate about their artwork and the reason they create it. My work, Paintings From the Heart, fills my soul with happiness by artistic use of beautiful colors and emotive character subjects.

In portraiture, I look for real-life people who are not necessarily mainstream individuals but who follow their own drummer and people going about their daily lives. I love capturing the softness in children’s faces, for their innocence, the clarity of their expressions shining through. In landscapes and floral pieces, I create with rich colors and depth so that the artwork conveys a sense of energy and sparks emotion.

I feel so privileged to be called an "artist," putting together all the luscious colors and forms to create a beautiful piece of art for others to enjoy. It fills my heart and my soul with supreme happiness every time I pick up a brush, dip it in water, and touch it to color and as watch as magic happens!

I hope you find my artwork to be uplifting and life-affirming.
