Entrada Institute & Utah Watercolor Society 2020 Arts and the Parks Beyond the Reef Watercolor Event with Plein Air Competition

Artists, you are invited to register online as a participant starting Saturday 29 August through Saturday, 17 October by submitting up to 3 studio pieces for this auction plus a competition piece done during the Plein Air painting time (Monday, October 12-Saturday, October 16, 2020) for a total of 4 paintings. Register through this link for the Studio Art entries, then email your images to jimmaurab@aol.com.  Help is available if you need it.  

Plein Air Paintings, a separate registration,  will be accepted for display at Etta Place Cidery on October 16-17, 2020.  The friendraiser event will be live and in-person, however attendance is limited in in accordance with governmental requirements.  Unsold Plein Air paintings will be added to the online exhibition for auction.

Paintings will be displayed in an online exhibition for auction Sunday October 18, 2020 through Sunday Dececember 13, 2020. You will keep your paintings.  If one sells, you deliver or ship it to the collector.  You may withdraw a painting for any reason.  No frames.

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY. Keep this prospectus for information needed at a later time. Please follow instructions carefully.

 No Studio digital images will be accepted after 8:00 pm, October 17, 2020. No Plein Air entries will be accepted after 1200 noon on October 17, 2020 at Etta Place Cideryin Torrey.

Registration opens August 29, 2020

  • Deadline for Studio Piece entries: October 17 at 8:00pm 
  • Exhibition/auction dates: October 17—December 13, 2020 
  • Plein Air painting period in and around Wayne County Monday 12- Friday 16 October 
  • Exhibition venue: Plein Air paintings will be displayed for auction at Etta Place Cidery  in Torrey on Saturday, October 17, 2020.  Unsold paintings will join the studio pieces on line for auction starting 18 October, 2020 through December 13, 2020.

NOTE: Attendance to the live event is limited; open to Entrada/UWS invitees on a space available basis. RSVPs are required to comply with governmental requirements for social distancing.

  • Online entry required – entries must be photographed without mats or frames
  • Original work only, completed within last five years. Water media on paper, clay board, canvas or experimental surfaces. 
  • NO SIZE LIMITS
  • $15 per entry (up to 3 and don’t forget the plein air piece for a total of 4 paintings) for UWS members / $10 for students / NON-members $20.  No refunds for entries that do not follow prospectus guidelines and requirements. 
  • Artists are responsible to deliver their sold paintings to their collector either through delivery or shipping.  Purchaser pays shipping.  
  • Artist will be required to submit a W9 if painting is sold.

Entry Details

This event is held in partnership with the Entrada Institute.  We will use PAYBEE online auction site for sales.  Personal information input, entry fee payment and artist notification will all occur when you register in Event Spot through the UWS constant contact email.  Entry images must be sent to jimmaurab@aol.com.

  • Each UWS member artist may submit up to three (3) entries plus a plein air competition piece.
  • Entry fees: UWS members - $15 per entry; Students - $10 per entry; Non-members- $20 per entry.

oStudents: Full-time students in high school or college residing in Utah are eligible to enter as a student. 

oNon-members: Become a member and enter! Visit the UWS website, www.utahwatercolor.org, to learn about membership opportunities. 

  • No refunds once payment is received. 
  • Entry through Event Spot, link will be on the Constant Contact email.  Payment link to the Utah Watercolor Society through PayPal will be on the digital entry.  During online entry, submit painting title, medium, size, price, and image for each entry.  Artists may also submit a brief statement about the painting, a biography and an artist statement. 
  • Terms and Conditions for Entry All terms and conditions for entry in this exhibition are required.
  • All works must be original. No copies or likenesses of another artist’s work (including photography), or works created under instruction or paid supervision. Use of all copyrighted sources is prohibited, with or without permission. Family photos, old and recent, are acceptable. 

oAll works must be rendered in water media. Acceptable water media includes: transparent watercolor, gouache, ink, acrylic, casein, and egg tempura. No water-based oils, oil pastel, or alcohol inks. 

oA work that is collage can use hand painted, found, or printed papers. Found or printed papers cannot exceed 25% of the total image. 

oA work that combines mixed media with collage must use at least 75% water-based media in conjunction with other media, such as pastel, ink, crayon, printed collage papers, and found papers. These "other media" may not be the dominant element. No work with 3-dimensional found objects or digital art will be accepted. 

oAny questions on acceptable media should be discussed with the Exhibition Coordinator prior to entry submission. Contact information is at the end of this prospectus. 

  • Artists are encouraged to paint on watercolor paper or canvas, clay board, or other experimental surfaces. Work may be varnished or glazed for surface protection. 
  • No size limits;  No framing. 

 

 

This is an unusual year.  Some of the elements of this event will be familiar to you.  Some are new to us all.  Be flexible, we may have to make adjustments.  More importantly, have fun painting beautiful Utah!
