Helping All Youth to Thrive: The Power of Relationships

Dr. Ken Ginsburg is a pediatrician specializing in Adolescent Medicine at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and a Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. He also serves as Director of Health Services at Covenant House Pennsylvania, an agency that serves Philadelphia’s homeless and marginalized youth.The theme that ties together his clinical practice, teaching, research and advocacy efforts is that of building on the strength of teenagers by fostering their internal resilience. He works to translate the best of what is known from research and practice into practical approaches parents, professionals and communities can use to build resilience.

Dr. Calderon is the director of strategy and capacity building at Parlay Consulting Firm and formerly a senior consultant and researcher with the Gallup Organization.  In her current position Dr. Calderon provides leadership and advice for enterprise, non-profit and education organizations to develop and implement strategies designed to create great places to live, learn, serve and work. While with Gallup Dr. Calderon directed the Gallup Student Poll—the nation’s largest student survey assessing among other elements HOPE and student Engagement.

Spencer Gorin is the Harm Reduction Program Specialist for the University of Arizona and the Creator of Health Play, Navigating Relationships and The Buzz Programs. Spencer will be
facilitating both his wildly popular Time Travel through Healthy Play workshop as well as Navigating Relationships, essential foundations for the art of empathy and
courageous conversations.

Matthew Gallagher, Ph.D.

Dr. Matthew W. Gallagher, is Associate Professor of Clinical Psychology at the Texas Institute of for Measurement, Evaluation, and Statistics at the University of Houston. He has studied the impact of hope on all life outcomes, and is currently researching how to assess and promote hope across individuals of all backgrounds.


Jean Boyd

Jean Boyd is the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Student Athlete Development at Arizona State University. He leads Sun Devil Athletics' commitment to graduating and preparing student-athletes to become high achievers in life.  He also coordinates student-athlete well-being programs and leads the department's diversity and inclusion efforts. Boyd is the 2012 Lan Hewelett Award winner - given to the top academic professional by the National Associate of Academic Advisors for Athletes.
In 2005 Boyd co-founded Scholar Baller®, a non-profit organization which promotes academic and life achievement through motivational academic incentives and educational initiatives. Scholar Baller® provides culturally relevant educational and incentive-based programs at the middle school, high school and college levels and has been adopted by over 50 colleges and universities. Boyd continues to be committed to his life passion of empowering young people through education and sport and to maximize their human potential.
