NUSL Annual Labor and Employment Reception | Thursday, Nov. 30, 2017 

Please join us for our annual Labor and Employment panel and reception on Thursday, November 30th from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. in 250 Dockser Hall. The evening program consists of two topical panel discussions, followed by a networking reception with light refreshments and cocktails.

PANEL 1: Working Around Uncertain – or Unfavorable – Courts, Agencies, and Congress

To deal with unsettled or disadvantageous environments, unions and employers are utilizing various strategies and procedures to tip the balance of power in their favor, or at least towards equipoise.  Panelists will discuss things like neutrality agreements and non-NLRB elections, a focus on state and local legislation, and the state of the law regarding mandatory arbitration with and without class action waivers.

PANEL 2: The Google Dilemma – Balancing Diversity, Protected Speech, and a Workplace Free from Hostility

The termination of Google employee James Damore after his posting questioning the capacity of women in the technology space raises a host of challenging questions that may compel attorneys in the field into unfamiliar legal positions. How would you advise your corporate client to handle such a well-publicized call to arms? What approach would you take if Damore called looking for representation, or a group of women asked you to file a hostile work environment claim if the company does not take firm action against the writer of the polemic?
